                                                                      DO SUMMER TENNIS LEAGUE 2019

GUIDELINES:                                Above All...............(Rules) are based on personal honor!!
The formation of this League is primarily to satisfy requests from our year round residents to have a continuous structured opportunity to play competitive tennis throughout the entire year.
As we begin our 15th season, we are once again requesting that all participants rely on good sportsmanship, good judgment and good manners.  Following these guidelines, we hope to insure that everyone will enjoy their summer months by improving their tennis skills and interacting with other women living within our community.  A NON-REFUNDABLE entrance fee of $25 per player is due  BEFORE April 1,  2019 to secure your team for the summer.  You may add players, if needed, throughout the entire summer season.

The league will begin the  week of June 3rd and run through mid August..... A bye week may be assigned to all teams the week of THE FOURTH OF JULY.

All matches will be played using SPBCWTA Rules, USTA Rules and the USTA  “The Code”.
Our teams are made up in the following way: If you play in SPBCWTA Division 1, 2A your summer team plays on Thursdays.  Levels 2B, 3, 4,  play on Tuesdays and Division 5, 6, 7, compete on Wednesdays.  You may combine Divisions to create a team..... Players from the higher Division must play in the higher positions when rosters are exchanged on game day.   IF you need subs, we do everything possible to work with you to find players with suitable ability to fill in when needed.  It is encouraaged to do EVERYTHING possible to avoid forfeits!

Four Courts (8 players) are required to participate each week.  Initial rosters should have a MINIMUM of 12 players, there is not a limit as to how many are placed on your roster.
Matches will be the best of 3 sets. All players have the option to play the 3rd set as a 10 point tiebreaker (first team to 10 points by 2). If one team prefers to play by this method, the other team must comply. The match winner will be awarded 1 point.

We discourage FORFEITS!  If you forfeit a line, the other team will be awarded the win and the forfeit line will receive a 1 point deduction penalty in addition to the loss.
All practice serves will be taken during the 10 minute warm up period.  Courtesy rules that you do not return practice serves from the opposing team.

The home team will have 4 courts available at 10:00 a.m.  *Hard Court Clubs are more than welcome to participate with the understanding that IF THEY ARE REQUESTED to play on the courts of their  Clay Court opponent, they will honor this request.  Balls will then be supplied by the hosting club.

The home team will supply a new can of balls for each position. Individual players will provide their own beverage.  Home court teams MUST have water and ice available.  If the home team supplies additional beverages, it is a wonderful courtesy, but not a requirement.

A team’s line-up shall be drawn up at the discretion and honor of the team Captain and she MUST play her greatest strength from the top down. Subs may be used,  but  strictly placed according to their ranking!!!

Always keep in mind that providing a solid match for everyone is the goal ---- A frustrating blowout win or loss is not pleasurable for anyone....

The team captains will present their line-up upon arrival at the match. Once exchanged, the line-up may not be altered.

If more than 3 total defaults for ANY reason are taken by any Club, all of their points will be removed from the overall standing. The offending Club will not be invited to join the league the following summer.

All players must be present at least 10 minutes prior to start time, any player arriving later than 10 minutes past starting time will be automatically defaulted and the winning point will be awarded to the opposing team.

If ALL teams in the Division experience a TOTAL rainout, teams will not be required to make up the match. In the event of a PARTIAL rainout    (i.e. anyone in the Division plays, even a few points!.....ALL  teams in the Division must make up the match as soon as possible) ---within the week is recommended.
Registration fees are non refundable and any complaints resulting from play must be submitted in writing to the coordinator of summer tennis immediately following the match. Both sides must write their version of the discrepancy and send the information along with a check in the amount of $20 (each team) made out to DO Summer Tennis. The dispute will be mediated and the team which is ruled to be in violation will be penalized with a 2 point deduction. The fine will be retained and the exonerated team will have their check returned. A second violation will result in dismissal of the players for the remainder of the season. We discourage controversy of any kind .... keep in mind this League is designed to be FUN!!  SOCIAL!!  FRIENDLY!! .............COMPETITIVE TENNIS!!
AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO FIRST AND SECOND PLACE TEAMS FROM EACH DIVISION.
IN THE EVENT OF A TIE, WINNERS WILL BE ESTABLISHED BY ANALYZING DETAILS OF TEAM STATISTICS. CHAMPIONSHIP RECOGNITION WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE TEAM WINNING THE MOST MATCHES, SETS, GAMES, LINES AND WITHOUT HAVING ANY FORFEITS.
GOOD LUCK and ABOVE ALL PLEASE HAVE FUN!!!
